SMOKING BAN UPDATE
As you may already know, the smoking ban that went into effect over a year ago had exemptions built into it for such places as private clubs and family businesses. Many voted for the bill with the understanding that these exemptions were included. However those that actually wrote the language of the bill wrote the exemption requirements so that virtually no one could qualify. For example, a family business ceased to be a family business if anyone entered who was not a family member.

Senator Robert Schuler has proposed Senate Bill #346, which attempts to clarify these and other exemptions and definitions so that the exemptions that were included are real exemptions - not phantoms that no one can comply with. It does not attempt to change the intent of the bill or add to the exemptions...only make the exemptions already included real and not phony.

If you agree that family-owned businesses and private clubs have the right to allow smoking in their bingo halls, then its time to let your State Senator know that you support SENATE BILL #346.

Below is a sample letter. Feel free to cut and paste it, print it out, and sign & mail it if you support this bill:

Dear Senator Schuler:

I am writing to support Senate Bill #346. I believe that family owned businesses and private clubs have the right to allow smoking in their establishments. I also believe the smoking ban has had a detrimental effect on small businesses in Ohio, the heart and soul of our State.

The proposed Senate Bill #346 will restore the rights of Ohioans to run their businesses, and I support its passage.

Sincerely,
